Democratic Culture of Corruption
Two big stories not making it into the mainstream media concern corrupt high-level Democrats. ?Dick Durbin, the #2 man in the Senate, sold more than $115,000 worth of stocks and mutual-funds on September 19, 2008. ?This was one day after the Treasury Secretary and Fed Chairman urged congressional leaders to craft legislation to help financially troubled banks – in a CLOSED MEETING.
This meeting was not open to the public, therefore any information that was disclosed by the Treasury Secretary and the Fed Chairman would be considered insider information. ?Durbin acted on and profited from this secret information – to the detriment of the general public. ?This same act committed by Wall Street types would be a gravely serious crime.

Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson’s case has been going on for years. ?During the Bush administration the Democratically-controlled congress did everything in their power to shove this case under the rug. ?However, the case is now proceeding on (as of this writing on June 16, 2009). ?The founder and CEO of IGate, Vernon Jackson, said this morning in the William Jefferson trial in Virginia that he paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to companies that were controlled by William Bill Jefferson’s family.
He also said that the payments were in exchange for Jefferson using his official position as Congressman to land iGate business in Africa.
The testimony would be key since the Jefferson defense is that he was not using his public position to engage in certain business dealings. Jackson has plead guity to pay bribe money. Defense attorneys normally utilize guilty pleas as a way of showing that prosecutors have given lenient sentences for information suggesting the testimony is false.

Another corrupt Democrat is the wife of John Conyers (D) Congressman from Michigan. ?She is under a pending indictment on corruption charges. ?The case involves whether or not she took bribes to switch her vote on a $1.2 billion contract to handle the disposal of Detroit’s sludge. ?Reports say she is considering a plea bargain as long as it protects her from having to serve any jail time.

Anybody remember Congressman Mark Foley – Republican of Florida? ?He was chased out of office on sex charges. ?He was accused of sending flirtatious sex messages to teen (male) pages. ?Teen pages who were of the age of consent. ?So, while what he did may be considered silly or disgusting, it wasn’t illegal. ?The media, Democrats and liberals all piled on him during the 2006 election and used his case to imply that all Republicans were corrupt.?(They never mentioned how this actually illustrated the openness and tolerance of the Republican party to have a gay Congressman without a single word of complaint. ?They usually insinuate that the Republican party is intolerant of people like Mark Foley.)
Mark Foley, like most Republicans who are accused of wrongdoing – immediately resigned. ?His seat was filled by Democrat Tim Mahoney who quickly became embroiled in his own sex scandal. ?But this time, the sex scandal involved criminal acts. ?And guess who has been almost dead silent about this? ?The mainstream media – of course! ?That’s not to say they didn’t report on it, but they certianly didn’t obsess on it like they did with Mark Foley.
Tim Mahoney agreed to pay a former mistress $121,000 in tax payer dollars to keep her mouth shut about their affair.
“You work at my pleasure,”? Mr. Mahoney angrily told Ms. Allen in a Jan. 20 2008 telephone call that was recorded and played for Mr. Mahoney’s employees. If you do the job that I think you should do, you get to keep your job. Whenever I don’t feel like you’re doing your job, then you lose your job. And guess what: The only person that matters is guess who? Me.?
The only good news in this case is that Tim Mahoney lost his re-election bid in 2008 – thanks to the good sense of the Republican Florida voters who make up the majority of his district.
I saw the first one covered on fox…and I don’t watch fox much…was GB I think, and it was before this article was published. As for the others, I haven’t heard a word though I am admittedly a bit out of the mainstream media loop.
