Obama Gives Iran 7 More Months to Make Bomb
The New York Times reported today that after meeting with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Obama has issued a stern warning to Iran. He is demanding that they respond to his overtures by December 31st, 2009 – almost 7 months away. I’m trying to imagine why on earth they would need so much time. Let’s see, people can travel from here to Tehran in about 10 hours. They can send an email or make a phone call instantly. It seems Tehran could give a response by dinner time tonight if they wanted to. This nearly seven-month period of time would seem to have the effect of allowing Iran seven more months to complete their nuclear bomb. Just what the Ayatollah ordered! With a stern deadline like this and a threat of "much stronger international sanctions" if Iran doesn’t respond – in time – the Iranians must be quaking in their boots.
According to the Times: Mr. Obama said that he would continue to seek agreement with Iran to end a nuclear program that the West fears could produce nuclear weapons. But, he added, “we’re not going to have talks forever.”
So, we’re not going to have talks forever, but Iran has SEVEN MONTHS to get back to us! Geesh!
