“Islam Day” MANDATED in Hawaii
Putting all pretense of concern about the separation church and state aside, Hawaii signals that there is to be no separation between Mosque and State.

Hawaii’s state senate has mandated “Islam Day†for September 24, 2009. The measure, already been approved by the state’s house, passed the senate 22-3 on May 6, with two Republicans and one Democrat in opposition. According to news reports, “Islam Day†seeks to recognize the religious, scientific, cultural and artistic contributions that Islam and the Islamic world have made.Fox News on May 7 quoted senator Will Espero, a Democrat and supporter of the “Islam Day†measure.
“We are a state of tolerance. We understand that people have different beliefs. We may not all agree on every single item and issue out there, but to say and highlight the negativity of the Islamic people is an insult to the majority" of believers "who are good law-abiding citizens of the world."
Fox News also cited Republican senator Sam Slom in opposition.
"I don’t think there’s any country in the history of the world that has been more tolerant than the United States of America, and because of that tolerance, we’ve looked the other way a lot of times, and many thousands of our citizens have been killed by terrorists."
Several reports quoted Republican Senator Fred Hemmings, telling a group of protesters, “I recall radical Islamists around the world cheering the horrors of 9/11. That is the day all civilized people of all religions should remember."
“Islam Day†drew little coverage in print media on May 7. The Los Angeles Times ran only small story, inside and below the fold. But the Hawaii measure sparked activity in the blogosphere. Michelle Malkin wondered, “Ok, where are the ACLU and Barry Lynn?â€
Mr. Lynn is executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. He was not cited in early reports on the “Islam Day†legislation, but the lone Democrat to oppose the measure reportedly did so on church-state grounds.
“As far as I know, no ‘Christianity Day’ designation in Hawaiian law,†wrote Malkin, “though the state did designate Good Friday a government holiday, which courts ruled was ‘primarily proposed to increase the frequency of legal holidays.’ No such rationale here.â€
William Teach of Right Wing News wrote that “It has more to do with those on the far left respecting the values and objectives of Islam than other established religions.â€
Teach saw the “Islam Day†as a sign of “dhimmitude.â€
“What instigated this further capitulation to Islamic supremacism?†wrote Pamela Geller of the Atlas Shrugs site.
The “Islam Day†bill now moves to Hawaii governor Linda Lingle, a Republican, the state’s first female governor, and the first Jew to hold Hawaii’s highest office.

You are so bigoted. That’s all I can say. Do you hate Islam or what? What do you have against it?
I see nothing wrong with Islam Day. The Founding Fathers did not plan for us to interpret “Congress shall make no law respection an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof” as a separation of church and state. It just means that the federal government cannot force a religion on us or prevent us from worshipping our own religion. The Supreme Court got it wrong and now everyone thinks there is a separation of church and state.
Regardless of separation of church and state ju0034, I think all of this reeks of anti-Muslim hatred and bigotry. I don’t understand why people are so hostile to Muslims.
You must be trained by Jesse “Shakedown” Jackson and The Flamboyant Al Sharpton.
You libtards sure know how to beat a dead horse. Racist this and racist that….Where were you hypocrites when Jeane Gurafalo’s self hating lesbian ass was hating on what she calls “white racist rednecks”? Ahhh it’s OK to hate white Christians right? I bet the whole Duke Le cross thing just flew right over your head.
What? It’s ok to hate White people, but everyone else deserves respect and special privileges that Whites are not welcome to?
If you stepped down off your high horse for a second, you might see that this whole article on Islam Day has nothing to do with Islam and everything to do with fairness. The fact that if Christians tried to get a day for them selves called CHRISTIAN DAY…we’d be fought on every front and there would be no chance in hell. The ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Center, ADL, CAIR would all be on the steps of the supreme court filing suit. Would you be so quick to defend a Christian Day?
Didn’t think so…

There should be a separation between church and state. Yes?
Face the facts, people. Muslims move into a country, set up their own areas of operation, expand that area, expel everyone who are not muslim, and install sharia law. That is the way they operate, and that is the way they expand their muslim world. Then there is the issue of 9-11…
Those are not the facts. Any religious extremist group does the same thing; including Christian extremists. All Muslims do not do what RCFAULKNER says they do. Muslims extremists may do that but so do some Christian extremists. As for the 9-11 comment, you can’t blame all Muslims for 9-11 just because Muslim extremists carried out the horrible act. We are not at war with Muslims. If you look at it that way then what about the Oklahoma City Bombing? Timithy McVeigh was associated with the Aryan Republican Party a right-wing extremist group. Should we have gone to war with all right-wing extremists at that time?
As for himyaosui’s comment. I agree there should be some separation between church and state but not to the extreme point that it is becoming today. We need to follow the Constitution and the Constitution says “Congress shall make no law respection an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof” Does having an Islam Day force you to be a part of that religion? No. Does it prevent you from practicing your own religion? No, so what is wrong with it?
Ju0034 – just curious – can you name a Christian extremist group that has moved into a country, set up their own area of operation and then expanded that area, expelling everyone who isn’t Christian?
RCFAULKNER, you mean like they’ve already started to do in Pakistan.Considering all of the hijacked planes and ships over the last couple of decades I think it’s more than a few extremists. As far as all the liberals out there who think we can live in peace and harmony with them, uh most of what they hate about us is the fact that we allow guys to live your lives at all,let alone any way you choose(living alternative lifestyles, premarital sex ext)and aren’t slaughtering you wholesale. Oh yeah we also let women actually have educations, wear what they choose, speak to whomever they choose among other big No nos. Not to mention the fact that in many Muslim countries they “kill” non-Muslims,especially Jews and Christians. Still think we should make nice to these people?
Jonathan C – I think the KKK or the Aryan Nation would be a good example of that. They are known more for race issues but they are also Christian extremists and would expel anyone who is not Christian. They don’t really move into other countries though; that I know of anyway. Maybe the Peoples Temple and Jonestown? I’m not an expert on religious groups or extremists but those are off the top of my head.
Anti-Lib – Yes I do think we should make nice with the Muslim nation but not with extremists. Any extremist group is bad but Muslims in general are not bad. Would you prefer that we kill all Muslims? Maybe put them in concentration camps? Force them to wear a patch that says Muslim? We’re getting closer and closer to being a Socialist country anyway so why not be like the Nazis.
We are a country of freedom and that is what makes us different. Muslims have the freedom to practice their religion without prosecution and that should not change. You should not judge someone based on their religion.
My questions about how we should treat Muslims and the Nazi comment in my last post was meant to be facetious for those of you who couldn’t tell.
The difference,ju0034 is the Klan and the Nation aren’t Christian. They claim to be,but they aren’t. Their hatred isn’t based on religion, but on race.If it was religious, their biggest target would be Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam(whose hatred and intolerance are based on both race and religion). You know how many black Christians there are? Jim Jones was an Ass clown, Also not a Christian despite his claims.

You can say the same thing about the Muslim extremists. The Klan and the Nation believe they are Christian just as the Al-Qaeda believes they are Muslim. Only a small percentage of Muslims participate in extreme activity. Just as if you ask moderate Christians about the Klan and the Nation, if you ask moderate Muslims about the extremists and they will say that they aren’t true Muslims. They claim to be, but they aren’t.
Is that why groups like Al-Qaeda get funding and support from everywhere there are Muslims? in including here! Here where I live we have a Masque attended by so-called moderate Muslims but it was discovered that this Masque was funneling money and weapons to Al-Qaeda,and similar groups. Moderate Muslims are actually the minority, and the moderates aren’t actually following the Quran(thank God).I wish there were more moderate Muslims I really do, if wishes were money I’d be a billionare

You are watching too much liberal news my friend. According to the CNS web site (http://cns.miis.edu/research/wtc01/alqaida.htm) Al-Qaeda consists of 2,830 members and those members have trained 5,000 militants. I’ll round up and make it 8,000 Al-Qaeda terrorists. According to Wikipedia “Currently, the number of Muslims is estimated to be between 1.25 and 1.84 billion” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim). That means that Al-Qaeda isn’t even close to 1% of the Muslims in the world. So you are telling me that a majority of those billion Muslims are terrorist extremists? That would be a low estimate of 625,000,001 extreme Muslim terrorists. That is over 780,000 times the size of Al-Qaeda. I’m sorry but I don’t believe there are that many Muslim extremists. A majority of Muslims are not extremists. Also, please post a link about that Masque if you have one. I would like to know how a Masque in the US was funneling weapons to Al-Qaeda. Thanks in advance.
ju0034 r u a muslim?

I’m not Muslim at all. In fact I’m a 30 something white male born and raised in the great Commonwealth of Virginia. I just believe that people should not jump to conclusions solely based on another persons race or religion. It is ignorant to believe that a majority of Muslims are bad.
On another note, if a majority of Americans do believe this, it is because of the liberal media. They want you to be afraid of everything. That way you’ll stay in your house and watch the news for updates while big government takes care of you. Don’t let the liberal media be your only source of information.
Oh, okay; I get it! As long as it’s not a Christian-based celebration, the Muslims get a day set aside for everyone to celebrate? Aside from Christmas and Thanksgiving, Christians should also have another special day too, while we’re at it!
